Founded by Henry and Dominic Saglio, PureLine® is the only major chicken pedigree to incorporate a selection program that focuses on bacterial resistance.

At one time chickens had the natural ability to live in the wild with complete bacterial resistance. Now, due to the common administration of antibiotics, many birds have developed immunity to the antibiotics making the birds susceptible to bacteria.

In the quest to develop PureLine®, the Saglios knew that bacteria resistance still existed in some birds. The challenge however was to isolate those birds from generation to generation and select only the best of the best egg layers.

More than five generations later, PureLine® now supplies MBA Poultry with the only eggs in the nation that can be traced back through their heritage to be antibiotic free. These are the only eggs that are hatched and raised to be MBA Poultry’s Organic Smart Chicken®.

Without the use of antibiotics, PureLine® has developed a breed of chicken that has a superior immune system. This allows the birds to grow naturally and live healthier with a competent immune system needed to face challenges of bacteria.

The natural growing conditions in which PureLine® birds are raised are promotes balanced health that eliminates the need for any growth promotants making the end product safer for you and your family.

All PureLine® eggs that are hatched to become Organic Smart Chicken® are treated with the same high standards at MBA Poultry. That is why our Organic Smart Chicken® is now Certified Humane® Raised and Handled. In order to meet the Certified Humane® standards the birds are fed a strict organic diet without antibiotics and are provided shelter, resting areas, and sufficient space to engage in natural behaviors. Living in a stress free, free range environment further bolsters the bird’s immune system making them less vulnerable to disease.

Pioneering PureLine®

Mark Haskins, founder of MBA Poultry, started the company with a vision to create the highest quality fresh chicken in the industry.  He began this quest in 1998 by being the first to bring commercial air chill technology to the US, a process that uses purified cold air to chill chicken, instead of adding non-potable water.  In January 2005, MBA was the first to utilize the Controlled Atmosphere System (CAS), a humane process that puts the birds into a sleep state prior to sacrifice.  To further MBA’s commitment to animal welfare and food safety, Mark knew that PureLine® antibiotic free birds were the right choice to make when selecting a pedigree for our Organic Smart Chicken®.  Not only does PureLine® promote animal welfare, but it also provides peace of mind to our loyal consumers, knowing that they are receiving a bird from the country’s first and only antibiotic free family tree.  It is our mission to produce the highest quality, best tasting fresh chicken in the United States – this is our pledge, this is our promise.
