MBA is the only processor in the country that uses the European Controlled Atmosphere Stunning (CAS) technology. Instead of being stunned with an electrical charge, CAS puts birds into a sleep state in preparation for processing. Many authorities on animal welfare praise the benefits of CAS as birds have reduced stress and more humane treatment. MBA has advanced this technology to also ensure Smart Chicken® is safer and of higher quality due to CAS reducing contamination and damage to the final product.

CAS Stunning Benefits

  • Significantly less broke bones and bruising
  • Optimizes humane treatment of the animal with better product quality
  • Better bleedout provides better color consistency in the final product

Since MBA Poultry uses purified air to chill birds instead of nonpotable water, the amount of fresh water waste and solid waste during processing is significantly reduced. This means that there is a great environmental benefit to our method of processing fresh chicken. If all processors used air chill, it would save our environment from billions of gallons of fresh water usage and untold amounts of solid waste each

year. Producing Smart Chicken® is not only a benefit to those who enjoy eating and serving it to their families, it is also a benefit in preserving our planet’s precious water.
